The strength of culture is day by day decreasing. But as a team we feel that we can do something to stop this. So we celebrated in school the richness of culture with the world's celebration "Cultural Diversity Day". Realizing that there are many different cultures around us in our communities is one way to start appreciating culture.
This very special day was started by the United Nations in the search to strengthen cultural appreciation around the world. To start this at school we decided to make an assembly in which we transmitted the importance of culture.
For the assembly we did a research of the different cultures there are in our
school. In the senior section we found out that there are students and even members of staff which had connection with Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Kenya, India, Korea, Taiwan, Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela, Chile and other countries. So we realized there is lots of cultural diversity in our small school community.
Students really felt encourage when a group of seventh graders performed Irish dance. Then, to end the presentation we showed a video made by our IGCA members, in which we can see some of the different celebrations around the world which shows the beauty of culture.
In the end, we understood that culture is essential in a community.
