The IGCA had a special visitor from Uruguay. His name is Edgar. He is a friendly lion sent by The British School in Montevideo. The purpose of his visit was to explore the culture in our country and in our school. The IGCA group decided to show him all the activities we do.
Edgar now knows that the IGCA (International Global Citizen’s Award) is a voluntary, non-profit programme for young people. The school has participated on this programme over a period of 4 years. Each of us works to become more active global citizens informed about global issues. We are looking to become better people. We help and develop skills in four different areas these are: understanding other cultures, taking care of the environment and our personal global footprint, we try to influence others and we reflect and record all our achievements. For more information about what the IGCA is we told Edgar to go to the IGCA international website: http://www.globalcitizensaward.org.
During Edgar’s Visit, he took part on three activities: Tree planting, our visit to a recycling plant Kimberly Clark and the collection of compost made by us. These activities are involved with the environment but we also have cultural activities.
The IGCA Team has a message for The British School in Montevideo: We encourage you to join the IGCA and start to influence your school if you want to make a change. The IGCA is a way in which students can get together to explore different cultures and help the environment. Here in our school we have done lots of changes that have encouraged students and we would like that other schools experience the reward of helping our world reach unity.
We hope Edgar enjoyed the time he spent with us as we have enjoyed his company and hope to see him back again!
