During the end of
January and start of February the IGCA team at the ABC developed a campaign to
help the local community. This campaign
was aimed to promote education by the collection of school materials for
further donation to a local school.
To obtain the school
materials the team asked for donations to all secondary students for an extent
of three weeks. At the start people weren’t as motivated to contribute with the
donations, but as the three weeks went by they started gaining more motivation.
This was because the IGCA team members were promoting the campaign every
morning during tutor time to all secondary school and towards the end people
became aware of the campaign and helped along. Both recycled and new material was collected
for the benefit of the local public school. A sum of pencils, erasers, paper
and other school materials were collected in the end.
On the 9th
of February a squad of IGCA team members went along to the school to deliver
the school materials. The people in charge of the school as well as the students
greeted us with smiles and regards. One of the students even produced a speech
which she recited to us during the delivery of the materials. It was a great
experience in which the IGCA team became involved with the local community to
promote education and development of it. Remember it is always important to
think globally but act locally!
