Compost : is plant matter that has been decomposed and recycled as a fertilizer and soil amendment. Compost is a key ingredient in organic farming. At its most essential, the process of composting requires simply piling up waste outdoors and waiting a year or more. DEFINITION GIVEN BY WIKIPEDIAComposting was one of the best experiences that the IGCA has done together. It took place at the far end of the school field. As you so on the definiton composting is making a fertilizer from waste materials like dead leaves, rests of chopped vegetables and fruits. All this ingredients are mixed together with water and calcium oxide to help decompose.
We spent a period of 3 months doing it. The steps for this compost were:
Firstly we dug a big rectangle on the field. We then filled it up with dead leaves form the garden of the school and grass that was cut form the school too. And we brought from our kitchens any rests of vegetables and fruits. Even the school cafeteria helped us with this! After mixing all the materials we rinsed it with water and calcium oxide which helps for the decomposition of the materials.
We are still waiting for having a final product because the better decomposed it is the better is the fertilizer. Stay in touch to this blog to see the final product that will be collected.
